Ben Stephenson was appointed Controller, Drama Commissioning in September 2008. Recent output includes Occupation, Freefall, Torchwood, Criminal Justice, Micro Men, The Street, Small Island, Women We Loved season, Turn of the Screw and Paradox. Recent commissions include Simon Donald's The Deep, Dominic Savage and Simon Stephens' Dive, Neil Cross' Luther, Hugo Blick’s The Shadow Line and Fiona Seres' The Silence.

Ben joined the BBC in 2004 as Head of Development, Independent Drama, and subsequently became Head of Drama Commissioning. He studied Drama at Manchester University before working as Development Trainee at Double Exposure, script editing Heartbeat, London’s Burning and Blood Strangers for Granada Drama. Ben then worked at Channel 4 where he was Editor, Series for over two years working on dramas such as No Angels, Teachers and Buried.Before joining the BBC he worked as a development producer at Shed Productions and Tiger Aspect.
